First Masses, old and new

On Friday, June 29, His Excellency the Most Rev. Robert Morlino will be ordaining three seminarians of the diocese to the Holy Order of the priesthood. The following morning, one of those men — the Rev Peter Lee — will offer his Fist Holy Mass as a Solemn High Mass (TLM/EF) in the presence of the Bishop at St Mary’s Pine Bluff. The Mass will be on Saturday, June 30 at 10:30 am. Please join us for this joyous occasion, and in praying for all three new priests of the Diocese of Madison.

Meanwhile, this past Sunday (6/24), we witnessed a different sort of First Mass, as Fr Richard Heilman (pastor at St Mary’s Pine Bluff) celebrated Solemn Mass in the Usus antiquior for the first time. The Mass was of the Feast of the Nativity of St John the Baptist, which was also Fr Heilman’s birthday. Though a priest for over 30 years, Father was not trained in Latin nor the traditional Roman Rite until recently, so he has had to devote much time and effort to make this wonderful liturgy happen. Congratulations to Fr Heilman, and ad multos annos!
